In his office, he sees patients for general cardiology visits, specialty consultations and cardiac surgical clearance.

Procedures
For complete diagnosis and possible intervention, cardiac catheterization is key. Using a catheter to inject dye into the coronary arteries, the cardiologist takes X-ray “movies” that show if arteries are diseased or narrowing. Cardiac caths help doctors pinpoint the location of clogged arteries and determine the best way to treat them. Click here to learn more about cardiac catheterization.

Angioplasty is sometimes referred to as percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PCTA) or balloon angioplasty. Angioplasty is an outpatient procedure that can be used to treat a narrowing of the coronary arteries, instead of traditional heart surgery. A small balloon is inserted via a catheter through a blood vessel in the groin or arm. The balloon is then passed into the coronary arteries to the narrowed area, then inflated to open the artery, deflated and withdrawn from the body.

A cardiac stent is a small wire mesh tube that is inserted into the now dilated artery after angioplasty. Its purpose is to keep the artery from narrowing again in the future.
